Modeling the Multiwavelength Variability of Mrk 335 Using Gaussian Processes

The optical and UV variability of the majority active galactic nuclei may be related to reprocessing rapidly changing X-ray emission from a more compact region near central black hole. Such model would characterized by lags between optical/UV due differences in light travel time. Observationally, however, such lag features have been difficult detect gaps lightcurves introduced through factors as source visibility or limited telescope In this work, Gaussian process regression is employed interpolate Swift narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy Mrk 335. simulation study five commonly analytic kernels, we conclude that Matern rational quadratic kernels yield most well-specified models for UVW2 bands analyzing structure functions lightcurves, obtain broken power law with break point at 125 days band. band, function lightcurve consistent case kernel while 66 obtained kernel. subsequent cross-correlation analysis previous studies furthermore shows tentative evidence broad X-ray-UV feature up 30 lag-frequency spectrum where significance depends on choice

This paper proposes a continous space text model based on Gaussian processes. Introducing latent coordinates of words over which the Gaussian process is defined, we can encode word correlations directly and lead to a model that performs better than mixture models.
